Meet Our Teachers
What parents are saying:
“I have enrolled all 3 of my children in Kindermusik since they were 12 – 18 months of age. I have faith in the program and have done the curriculum myself 3 times! It is still exciting to see how various teachers present the information so differently yet with the same professionalism and caring.”
Jeanette, mother of Ami
“The teachers at Kindermusik Cambridge/KW are phenomenal! They really love what they do and it shows through.”
Christine, mother of Ava and Jack
Our Teachers
JANET BERETTA
Janet Beretta has been teaching Kindermusik since 1998. Janet had been a Kindermusik parent since 1995, loved the program and witnessed firsthand the joyful musical experiences Kindermusik programs provided for children.
Janet graduated from University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Musical Arts and then went to work at the UWO Library System in Human Resources. During that time she completed her Certificate in Human Resources Management and her Certificate in Adult Education. In 1999 Janet temporarily shelved her professional career in Human Resources to stay home and raise her two musical daughters. During those 11 years she had the gift of teaching and spending time with hundreds of Kindermusik children and their families. Now that her children are grown, Janet has returned to HR part time at the St. Jerome’s University at the University of Waterloo. Janet is thrilled to be able to continue doing what she loves most, teaching and playing with all her wonderful Kindermusik students.
Janet and her husband Jim, live in Cambridge, and have two musical daughters, Rachel and Megan, both proud Kindermusik graduates.
DEB CARBONE
Deb’s musical journey started quite late by Kindermusik standards. She began piano lessons at age 9 and school choirs, bands and orchestras followed. She credits the impact of an amazing high school music teacher on her choice to be involved in music education. One of her fondest memories was accompanying the school choir of 200 students singing a rousing rendition of the Battle Hymn of the Republic at the spring concert.
Deb has been a teacher and the summer camp co-ordinator for Kindermusik of Cambridge for the past 15 years, as a result of the impact of Kindermusik on her own daughters. Both girls are still actively involved in the world of music. Deb teaches about 100 children a week, from birth to age 7—many of them the third or fourth child in a family. She now teaches the children of students she taught at Seaton Public School. She has a special place in her heart for the many special needs children who have gone through her classes.
Deb graduated from The University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Music, Honours and a Bachelor of Education. She taught high school and intermediate music programs before moving to Cambridge in 1981. For the next ten years, she taught the music program at Dr. John Seaton Sr. Public School in Sheffield and was involved in curriculum development and teacher training workshops for the Wentworth Board of Education.
Within the community, Deb has accompanied school choirs, taught at music summer camps for the Waterloo Region District School board, and auditioned and judged talent shows at both the Rockton and Cambridge Fall Fairs. She served on the Board of Directors for the Wellington Winds ensemble for 20 years.
Deb—or Mrs Carbone, as the children call her—is passionate about the impact of music on pre-school children and keeps her teaching up to date with the current research on music education. Each of her students is given the opportunity to grow and develop in a safe and stimulating musical environment. She feels privileged to be a child’s first teacher and is delighted when an older child recognizes her in her role as an occasional supply teacher with the Waterloo Region District School Board.
BETHANY GIBBONS
Bethany graduated from Heritage Baptist College with a Bachelor of Church Music (Vocal emphasis). She enjoys teaching vocal music from her home studio and has been very active in her church community for several years as a worship leader, vocalist, and an independent artist. She has also had several opportunities to express her love for music and to explore teaching in various venues as a volunteer in her community.
“Becoming a Kindermusik Educator has been a huge blessing in my life. Not only has it provided me with an opportunity for growth and continued learning; but also, the opportunity to help fulfill my desires to teach, nurture, inspire, encourage, challenge, and to be a positive influence in the lives of young children.”
Bethany, her husband Doug, and their three sons currently reside in Cambridge. Bethany’s husband and sons are also musical. They enjoy playing and performing music together whenever the opportunity arises—a modern day “Partridge Family” minus the bus and a manager named “Reuben.”
HANNAH HASTINGS-FUHR
Hannah has fostered her love of music since the early age of 7 when she sang and did solo work with the Inter Mennonite children’s choir until the age of 16. She continued to study and perform throughout high school where she was involved in a performing arts program with special interest in drama, music and art. Hannah began studying vocal music privately at the age of 12.
She spent many years working at Silver Lake Mennonite Camp, near Sauble Beach ON, where she instructed various activities and eventually became the Program Director. Following this, Hannah became the Nature Director at Camp Valaqua in Alberta, where she met her husband, Adrian. She continued her studies at Canadian Mennonite Bible College in Winnipeg and majored in both Church Music and Theology. She has sung with various choirs including The Mennonite Mass Choir, The Mennonite Oratorio Choir, The Menno Singers, and a number of smaller chamber and jazz ensembles. Hannah has also been heavily involved with musical stage productions including Jesus Christ Superstar in Winnipeg where she produced and choreographed the show.
Mrs.“H”, as she is known to her students, has found a perfect fit as a Kindermusik teacher, where both her love of music and children come together. She and her husband, Adrian, reside in Waterloo with their daughter, Naomi. Mrs. “H” has been a licensed Kindermusik educator since 2001.
KATHERINE HEFFNER
Katherine’s first obsession with music came at the age of 2 with Disney movies. More specifically “The Little Mermaid”.
After she had spent countless
days and hours singing it around the house her parents, (for their own sanity) were forced to always keep a variety of new music and of course Disney movies close at hand! Katherine could (and still can) often be found singing at the top of her lungs at almost every time of day.
Naturally, Katherine decided to continue to pursue music in her adult life. Katherine has a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Brock University as well as a Degree in Education from the University of Western Ontario. Katherine also has a background in piano, flute, dramatic arts, music theory and dance.
Katherine obtained her Kindermusik training in 2011. She very much looks forward to being a part of the Kindermusik family and sharing her love and passion for music with those around her!
MYFANWY HERRIOTT
Myfanwy graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education. After playing French Horn with the Victoria Symphony for a short time, Myfanwy found herself drawn into the wonderful world of teaching children. She’s taught band, choir, and elementary classroom music within the public school system and has been a preschool Montessori teacher since 2003.
Myfanwy completed her Kindermusik training in 2008 and in addition to loving her job here making music with families every week, Myfanwy serves as an occasional teacher with the Waterloo County District School Board.
Myfanwy lives in Cambridge with her husband Mike, a professional trumpeter, and their daughters, Angela and Kira. An outdoor enthusiast, Myfanwy enjoys hiking, kayaking and beach combing with her girls. When the creative urge hits, Myfanwy loves to spend time writing and illustrating children’s stories.
MICHELLE JACQUES
Music and Michelle have always gone hand in hand. As a child, she could be heard singing herself to sleep every night and she drove her brother bananas on long car trips to Florida by singing every commercial jingle known to man. One time, while walking home from a friend’s house, she choked on a fly while singing at the top of her lungs! It’s no wonder her uncle was heard to comment, “That kid marches to the beat of a different drummer!”
It was no surprise to her family that she would pursue a degree in Music Education, an Ontario Teacher’s Certificate and all three levels of Orff-Schulwerk Certification. In 1985, fresh out of university; she stumbled upon Kindermusik, and a calling that was to become her life’s work.
Early in her career, Michelle served as Canadian Kindermusik Distributor, for which she received Kindermusik International’s Service Recognition Award for helping over 200,000 children experience Kindermusik by building Canada’s educator base from 6 to over 500 teachers. She has co-authored curricula and professional development seminars, was a teacher trainer/mentor from 1993 to 2010, and currently serves on KI’s Speakers Bureau. Michelle has been the owner and director of Kindermusik of Cambridge since 1987 and of KW Kindermusik since 2002.
She lives in Cambridge with her husband, Tim and they have 2 adult sons, Tyler and Paul, both Kindermusik grads from her early days of teaching. The only thing that will cause her to one day retire will be her other dream: living on a boat in the Caribbean.
ANNA JANECEK
After many fulfilling years as a Kindermusik mom, participating in classes with her two young daughters, becoming a Kindermusik educator was a natural choice for Anna Janecek as it allows her to incorporate both her passion for music and the joy she experiences in working with children. With music degrees from both the University of Waterloo and the University of Toronto, her background is in vocal music, choral conducting, dance and musical theatre. She has been involved in choirs, both as a singer and conductor for many years, and has also been very involved in music leadership in the church with both children and adults.
Through her work with Kindermusik, Anna hopes to encourage families to come together through the joys of music and to nurture and honour the individuality of each child.
KATHY LEPP
Kathy Lepp is happily married to Youri, and is mother to Sofia and Aron. They are a family who all love music! She received her Kindermusik training in 2001 and has been enjoying teaching ever since. In addition to her work as a Kindermusik educator, Kathy home schools both her kids, and leads worship in a local church.
PAT MURRAY
Pat Murray was the original owner/director of KW Kindermusik, which she founded in 1990. One of her earliest memories of music was sitting on the piano bench beside her mother while she and her father, who was a violinist, played Christmas carols. Pat and her sister would both sing and it was one of the best times of Pat’s early childhood.
Pat received her Kindermusik teacher training from the Kindermusik Canadian Headquarters in Cambridge, Caldwell College, New Jersey, Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois and from York University, Toronto. In addition, Pat holds an Early Childhood Education diploma from Sir Sandford Fleming College in Peterborough. She taught preschoolers for almost 30 years in a variety of settings including the K-W and the Sunshine Montessori Schools, the Waterloo Separate School Board and in her own classes. Pat has been an active member of her church choir, the University of Waterloo Choir and the Mass Mennonite choir.
Currently, Pat serves as Head Teacher at KW Kindermusik and teaches music to the elementary students at The K-W Montessori School in Waterloo.
Pat brings a genuine warmth and love of all children to her teaching. She resides in Kitchener with her husband, Clark, and twins, Blake and Jenessa, both Kindermusik and Recorder-Orff graduates.

TAMMY STINSON
This woman is rarely seen without a smile on her face and a song in her heart. According to Tammy, it is hard not to feel the power of music when there are so many children every day at Kindermusik exhibiting its benefits! Tammy began teaching Kindermusik after receiving her certification in 2008. She has also completed a Bachelor of Music Education from Wilfrid Laurier University and her Bachelor of Education from The University of Western Ontario. Tammy worked in sales for Waterloo Music for more than twenty years, serving music educators across the country. She also worked for KW Habilitation Services for ten years and during that time volunteered with KW Special Olympics.
After participating in some Kindermusik classes with her daughter Greta, Tammy decided to become a licensed Kindermusik educator, continuing her growth as a teacher and her role as a stay-at-home-mom! Currently residing in St Clements, Greta, Tammy, and her husband, Steve, enjoy spending time doing the small town kind of things.
WINNIFRED YKEMA-KING
Winnifred received her Kindermusik training in the fall of 2002 after 20 years of working in the manufacturing industry in customer service, training and documentation. Her expressive and graceful manner comes from many years as a dance teacher, choreographer and director at a dance school. She competed in professional dance competitions and trained students for amateur competitions; in many cases placing very well. During this time, Winnifred was honoured to receive the “Top Teacher” Ontario Region Award.
Always interested in the arts and drawn to music, Kindermusik has allowed Mrs. “Y-K”, as she is known to her students, to pursue a life-long dream and satisfy her love of children and teaching. She discovered Kindermusik after reading an article in the newspaper about the Village with Seniors program and immediately registered her daughter, Serina, for classes. Serina, adopted from China early in 2002, helped Winnifred to realize she had a deep desire to make a difference in children’s lives and feels Kindermusik enables that to happen.
