What your child will experience in Recorder-Orff class:

  • Singing. With a great foundation like Kindermusik, you’ll be amazed at how the children are now able to not only sing competently in unison, but also in 2- and 3-part rounds.
  • Movement. We’ll have fun with challenging activities that develop body & spatial awareness, beat, coordination, and the physical representation of concepts.
  • Recorder. We’ll build on the recorder skills acquired in the Young Child program and through technique, songs and duets prepare ourselves for independent musicianship and future participation in a band, orchestra or ensemble.
  • Orff Ensemble. The Orff ensemble consists of a variety of xylophones and metalophones from soprano to bass ranges, played by mallets. Non-pitched percussion instruments such as drums, wood blocks, triangles, etc. are also used for additional musical colour.
  • Music Reading Games. What better way to reinforce music notation and rhythms, while still having fun!
  • Weekly Home Activities. We’ll learn music theory, develop note reading fluency, and practice writing musical notation in a fun, sequential and incentive-based home study guide that comes with the course.
  • Social Interaction. Recorder-Orff is perfect for the child who is not quite ready for one-on-one private instruction. The group setting builds team skills, giving your child further experience with the fundamental elements of music while still having fun with her peers, and teaches her to incorporate a regular practice routine into her schedule, preparing her for future private instruction.
  • Sharing Time Once a Month. We’ll be learning so much in Recorder-Orff that we’ll be itching to share it with you every 5th lesson.
  • End-of-Year Class Concert. You won’t believe how far we’ve come in one year since we graduating from the Young Child program!

What is Orff?

Orff is an approach to music education that integrates movement, speech, rhythm and song into every activity. Children learn through doing, exploring and improvising. They are active participants in an integrated, guided process, one that allows for differing musical abilities. A structured, sequential development of knowledge and skills encourages joyful participation, creativity and personal musical growth from all participants.
